Although it might seem like a simple thing to do, being in charge of technology and being able to use it for good is definitely a learned skill. I started thinking about what pieces of technology could make my life better, and before I knew it, I had completely changed a few things in my life for good. Turn Your Home Into A Smart Home With These 4 Products

It's now possible to turn your home into a smart home if you have the right products to get the job done. Here are four things to get that will make your home feel like you're living in the future.

Smart Plugs

The easiest way to transform your home into a smart home is with smart plugs. These devices plug into any outlet and allow you to control what is plugged into it over WiFi. They work best for turning on items with a physical switch that can be left turned to the on position since the smart plug simply cuts the power running to the device. It doesn't work for those items that have digital switches, since the smart plug can only really turn the device off instead of turn it on.

Smart Switches

A smart switch works a bit differently since it involves replacing the physical light switch in the room. These help you control the hardwired lights rather than lamps. Keep in mind that you need to have more modern wiring for these smart switches to work, so putting them in an older home may not be an option. Instead, you'll have to use smart light bulbs that connect to a hub to control them, and leave the switches turned on at all times.

Smart Blinds

Believe it or not, It is now possible to automate the binds on your windows. While it does require replacing the entire window covering, the mechanism that rolls the blinds up and down can be controlled over the Internet and with a smartphone application. This means that you can set your blinds to operate on a schedule, with them rolling down at night and rolling back up in the morning to let in natural light.

Smart Garage Door Opener

It is relatively easy to add a smart garage door opener to your home since it involves connecting a special box between the garage door openers and the button controls on the wall to get it to work properly. This gives you full control over your garage door in several ways, which include geo fences that close the garage door when you are away from home, or the option to alert you when the garage door has been left open for a specific amount of time. You can then have the garage door close automatically or close it using a smartphone app. This can give you peace of mind that your garage door is closed when you are not at home.
