Consider These 4 Features When Buying A Home Security System

Do you want to make sure your home is protected by adding a security system but do not quite know what features you should be looking for? You'll definitely want to consider the following things when you are selecting a security system.

Monitoring

There are several options when it comes to actually monitoring your security system. Many security systems now offer self-monitoring, which is where you receive a notification when the security system sees activity, and you are responsible for checking it on your phone to verify if it is a concern or not. The other option is where you pay for third-party monitoring, which has an actual person looking to monitor those activity alerts and report suspicious behavior.

Detection

You'll want to pay attention to how activity is detected because there are a few ways that it can be done. If you have cameras, motion sensors can alert you when someone is in view of the camera. However, these motion sensors may be too sensitive and send out false alarms.

If you are concerned about being alerted if someone enters your home, you can use door and window sensors that alert you about if they are opened. They work by placing a sensor on the door or window and the frame that surrounds it and sets off an alert if the two sensors are no longer near each other. You can also use a glass break sensor that alerts you to the sound of glass breaking, which could be from someone trying to break in.

Control Panel

All of these nice features are not going to mean much if you do not know how to use them. Look at the control panel that is offered with the security system and see if it is intuitive to use. Is there a hub in your home with a touch screen that you can quickly look at, or does it require an app for your smartphone? It may be worth looking at tutorials on how the control panel works so you can tell if it's right for you.

Smart Home Integration

Do you currently have smart home products that you are using? You may want a security camera that integrates with your existing system in some way. This could be as simple as adding the security system controls to an existing app that you are using or even being able to control it with your voice using your existing smart speaker.

For more information about a security system, contact a local company.
